Getting Started as a Blogger or Entrepreneur

Congratulations on starting your entrepreneurial journey! It is truly amazing that you have taken the initiative to start your own business. When you first start out of the gate, you’re so excited, have tons of motivation, and are ready to take on the world. But if you’re like me, in the starting phase of entrepreneurship– or even if you aren’t– you know and understand that everything isn’t all sunshine and rainbows.

It gets Difficult, to stay motivated, to stay on top of things and the worst of them all.. it can be hard to remain consistent when you’re starting off because you’re not seeing a lot of results. However, it is ESSENTIAL to remain focused, motivated, consistent, and dedicated to yourself and to your goals. You owe it to yourself and to your business as well.

I’ll admit it, I am not always driven with a passion for my blog and website. Sometimes I feel a little discouraged and I question whether or not I should even be doing. It’s okay to get discouraged at times, just don’t remain that mindset. The ‘rut’ can be a dangerous place. The longer you stay in it, the harder it becomes to get out. Remind yourself of the reasons you got started in the first place. Surround yourself with people who can be uplifting and supportive of you and your aspirations. Check in with yourself and if necessary, take a short break.

Creating the foundation for success online.

Focus on your content, products, or services. Yes, you need traffic and clientele to be successful, however, do you have enough to offer them? To engage them? When providing physical goods and services, you typically don’t need a lot of items to get started. But when you’re also running a blog or website, content is your best friend! I know you want to drive insane traffic to your web pages (trust me I do too) but you need to think more about content than traffic when you are first starting out. Having a lot of content helps you to get placed higher in SEO rankings, gives users a more fulfilling visit, and helps to convert people into clients or subscribers.

There is nothing wrong with sharing your site or posts to drive traffic to them, after all, you want to get your content out there for people to see. Social media platforms are great places to get free traffic. Whenever I publish a blog post I make sure I go through my social media checklist. I currently share to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Tumblr, and Reddit. With social media it is important to be social if you want to be successful! It isn’t enough to just post your link, engage with followers and similar accounts. Interact with accounts that comment on/ like your content. Be sure to interact with people who follow and use the same hashtags you do.

Treat your business like a business! I can’t stress how important this point is. The energy and effort you put into creating and maintaining your business will mirror the success that you have. This doesn’t mean success will happen overnight just because you’re working hard. Like Oprah said “success is a process”, and I agree with that statement. Try to keep the momentum going even if you aren’t seeing sufficient results. What you put in is what you will get out. If you stay focused, dedicated, and care for your business like you would your child, it WILL flourish one day, just believe in yourself and your efforts.

Lastly, make sure your site is ‘ready to gobefore launching and promoting it. For example, no one wants to spend time shopping on your website to only find that the shopping cart features don’t work. Take the extra time to edit your posts and pages, double check hyperlinks, and use correct grammar. Add those finishing touches. I understand that nobody is perfect, we are human and make mistakes. It makes a world of difference however when your site and business are checked and everything is running smoothly. You will attract more returning clients and subscribers that way. You don’t want people to think your site was just ‘thrown together’.

Hang in there my fellow entrepreneurs! Think and remain positive about your growing business. Do you feel like you’ve already done everything you can do and your business just isn’t taking off yet? Don’t worry, the good news is that there is always something to learn, always something new to try. Maybe try changing your target audience or rebranding, whatever you need to do just don’t give up.

You can not fail until you stop trying.
